Joining forces to promote strenght, unity, empowerment and resilience in Oaxaca.

Every one of us has a source of inspiration that keeps us going, striving for a brighter tomorrow. For some, it’s the well-being of our children. For others, it’s shaping the world for generations to come. No matter the circumstance, we all share the same dream – to see the people we love flourish and thrive.

We aim to raise $50,000 in donations

to bring more people into the Puente and SiKanda projects.

20 DECEMBER 2021.

For nearly 20 years, Puente has worked in the state of Oaxaca to advance food sovereignty and develop capacity in communities to realize meaningful change. We have been proud to support Mexican farmers, their families, and their communities in creating new realities that value their choice and autonomy.

This would not have been possible without the support and hard work of those who have been part of Puente throughout our history. Our staff has worked tirelessly to address challenging but critical issues that affect the livelihood and wellbeing of Oaxacans. Our partner communities opened their hearts, homes, and lives to us. Our partner organizations worked with us to build integral solutions for sustainable development. And, our funders and donors supported us with substantial and generous resources to realize this work.

Holding deep gratitude and reverence for all of this partnership in relationships, experience, knowledge, and support, we are taking the next step in our lifecycle as an organization. Recognizing that the nonprofit environment in Mexico has become increasingly difficult, in January 2022, we will launch a strategic alliance with our longtime partner, SiKanda.

30% of the municipalities in the state of Oaxaca are classified as “highly marginalized” and 61% of the population lives in moderate or extreme poverty.

We envision a world where families and communities live with dignity and exercise their food sovereignty by growing, consuming, exchanging, and marketing locally-produced healthy food using sustainable agroecological methods.

As we evolve through our new alliance, there is still much work to be done in the fight for food sovereignty and building sustainable food systems. Your continued support ensures that we can continue to innovate, grow and create impact.

With an integrated approach that balances nutrition, agroecology, and social economy, Puente works in cooperation with 24 rural and indigenous communities in the Central Valleys and Mixteca regions of Oaxaca through participatory processes and a commitment to co-responsibility for long-term viability.

COVID-19 has changed the way we think about community health and the way we work.

We continue to follow strict safety protocols in any interaction on the field and ask that the public do the same for the health of all of us. Wear a mask and wash your hands frequently. When possible, our team works remotely and any meeting that takes place in person is planned in open-air environments where social distancing protocols can be followed.
