Puente a la Salud Comunitaria works to reintroduce the sustainable production and consumption of amaranth in three micro-regions in the state of Oaxaca: the Mixes, the Mixteca and the Eteco Valleys. Puente has chosen these areas because of the the high level of interest for family diet diversification, the potential for amaranth production, as well as the positive collaboration of participant communities as they search for new options for their development.
These are indigenous zones that face high levels of child malnutrition, poverty, outward migration and marginalization. It is unsurprisingly therefore that they are re-thinking the opportunities that a dyamic, sustainable and productive farming environment could provide for their well-being.
